Making your own iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch app!

Post by Kulon on Wed 17 Oct 2012, 14:51

As requested, here's how you can make your own app for iOS based on my experience with it 2 years ago. Keep in mind that the internet is a great resource. Like I said before "For everything in life, there's Google and Wiki." Keep in mind that Google owns YouTube Wink

1. You need to own a Mac. Doesn't matter what kind of computer it is, it just needs to be an Apple product. I made my app with a Mac Mini so you don't need the most powerful high end machine possible. This is not optional, you can try to install Apple's operating system on your own PC (I think it's Mac OS X Lion?), but that may potentially screw up your hard drive and any partitions on it so do it at your own risk. For info on how to do that, there's YouTube.

2. Once you have your Mac, visit this website: https://developer.apple.com/
That is Apple's developer website, click iOS Developer Program and it'll take you to the main page where you can get started. Of course, there's a fee for this which is about $100 a year. Don't pay for that yet, right now just your goal is to download the SDK which will put you in a developer environment. You will need an Apple ID, if you don't have one then you can make one easily. Follow the instructions on the screen, it should be self explanatory.

3. Once you followed all the steps, you should have downloaded a package which you can install that'll get you started. Start off by watching various YouTube videos or by reading Apple's website. Keep in mind that the language is object-oriented, meaning it's based on the concept that the code is based on a "object" which is a physical thing in the virtual world that has its own properties (size, color, etc.). If you're having any troubles, you can contact Apple support.
